Goldman and Blackstone are picking a partner the way utilities picked turbine suppliers a century ago. The interesting startups of the next five years might not choose to compete directly with that, but instead build the trust layer that sits on top of it, the vertical depth that sits beside it, and the governance scaffolding that sits around it. Tomer Michaeli reposted thisTomer Michaeli reposted thisToday, Relay launched Relay Capital for small businesses. They had a vision. We had the infrastructure to build it. When Relay decided capital was the next chapter for their platform, they didn't go looking for a lender. They went looking for a partner, one who could help them build something truly native to their experience, without starting from scratch. That's where Fundbox comes in. We provide the full stack: credit decisioning, capital deployment, compliance infrastructure, and servicing, all accessible via API. Partners like Relay focus on their product and their customers. We handle everything underneath. The result? Relay Capital, a fully white-labeled, end-to-end lending experience built in under eight weeks. No iframes. No redirects. Pre-approved offers surfaced directly in the Relay dashboard. Read more about the partnership https://lnkd.in/emHRSxbd

Tomer Michaeli shared thisDon’t start as an analyst!Tomer Michaeli shared thisWhat does it take to become a partner in VC? There are over ten thousand mid-to-senior level investment professionals in the U.S., spread across more than 3,000 VC firms. Every year hundreds join them as junior VCs.Year after year, my MBA students ask me: what characteristics make a junior VC more likely to become a partner? Finally, I have some answers: https://lnkd.in/gciBbKpc Blake Jackson and I have assembled the largest and most comprehensive dataset of all the VC investment professionals in the US covering the last 30 years. A critical advantage of our data is that we can observe junior level employees as they enter VC firms. Most previous studies focused, for data availability reasons, only on the most senior people. Our sample includes 12,627 people who joined an institutional VC firm in the US between 1996 and 2025 at the junior or middle-level. (We exclude corporate venture capital firms from this exercise because, even though career progression there is interesting as well, it too often follows a different trajectory.) For all these professionals we painstakingly get demographic, educational, and experience data. This allows us to ask a simple question: can a VC’s background predict their career progression? Are investors with particular backgrounds consistently and differentially likely to become more successful VCs?Don't Start as an Analyst. Tomer Michaeli reacted on thisTomer Michaeli reacted on thisThirteen years ago, I co-founded Bluevine with a belief that small business owners deserved better — a banking experience truly built around their needs. Today, over a million of them chose us. Together, they've helped us reach $2 billion in managed deposits and $17 billion in loans delivered. Numbers I honestly didn't know if we'd ever see. But the numbers don't mean as much to me as the trust behind them. A million business owners who told us, with their dollars and their decisions, that banking could be better. That something easier was possible. Turns out, they were right. And we're only building more momentum from here. Built for millions. Trusted with billions. 💙 https://blvn.com/4eBUdMnA Thank You to the 1 Million Businesses Who Chose BluevineA Thank You to the 1 Million Businesses Who Chose Bluevine

Tomer Michaeli liked thisTomer Michaeli liked thisToday, we’ve launched Fund VII and Nation II. $320M to keep on being the first believer in the most exceptional founders building globally from Europe. Together, these funds represent something that we’ve been reaching for throughout Seedcamp ’s entire history: a true one-stop shop for founders raising the earliest capital. Those early bets are the kind of bets that scare most investors. But they’re why Seedcamp exists and what we excel in. I’m proud that we’re going to keep on writing those first checks. I’m also proud that now, our support doesn’t have to stop at that first check. The Select fund (our Nation fund) allows us to double down as founders scale, all the way through Series B and beyond. But the beauty of Seedcamp is never it’s just about the check. It's about the experience we've built over decades of entrepreneurship, and a deep network of founders across Europe and the world who can help with the unglamorous reality of scaling: the community, the hard-won lessons, the people who've already been there. Then, when the moment comes, we're there for the move into the US too. Not just capital, but with our growing New York team, we’re offering real support and network behind it. Our community and our LPs choosing to keep backing this mission means more than I can easily put into words. So many people want to be part of what we're building - and I’m so proud that our own founders are committing to the fund alongside us.

The FT article of today, “How private equity’s big bet on software was derailed by AI,” is deliberately provocative but rests on a flawed premise. It conflates AI’s growing ability to generate software artefacts with the far more complex reality of delivering enduring enterprise software value. They are not the same. What we are seeing across our portfolios and the wider market is that AI is an accelerant for established software companies, not a destroyer of them. Enterprise software value lies not in the code itself, but in the ecosystem around it; implementation, configuration, training, support, compliance and continuous evolution. These systems are deeply embedded in mission-critical operational processes and customers depend on trusted, long-term partners. AI-generated products alone cannot replicate this operational depth or trust. Equally, domain expertise, proprietary data and embedded workflows create powerful structural moats. While AI may lower the cost of writing code, it does not replicate decades of accumulated operational knowledge, regulatory nuance, or customer integration. Established vendors possess deep customer relationships and real-world data assets that new entrants cannot quickly replicate. In practice, AI is strengthening incumbents. It enables faster development, better automation and improved customer outcomes; benefits that established vendors can immediately deploy across their installed base. Combined with high switching costs, operational dependency and customer trust and data protection requirements, this reinforces rather than weakens their competitive position. Finally, the economic advantage lies with companies that already have recurring revenue and customer access. AI reduces marginal development cost and accelerates innovation, improving margins and strengthening customer retention. In summary, AI lowers the barrier to creating software, but not the far higher barrier to building trusted, deeply embedded enterprise platforms. Far from destroying software value, AI is amplifying the advantages of agile, domain-led, customer-centric software companies. As ever, the clearest perspective comes not from media grabbing headlines, but from customers themselves. That said, we note in our Book, the AI Fix for Private Equity (Gary Pearson), this is another wake-up call for those that are not ’structurally’ taking notice.

💫 Recap of 2025 and why I'm more excited than ever for what's ahead 💫 We invested in four companies (bringing our total portfolio to 17!), and three of them are lead by exceptional women: 💥 Zendo - An operating system managing energy procurement in colocation data centres. Led by Jade Batstone and Drew Barrett. 😈 Musa - One of the fastest growing women's health apps in South America, with over 500k MAUs(!) Founded by the incredible Pamela Valdes. Two unannounced investments that includes a platform for families navigating elder care and an AI-native spatial-analysis platform that opens up the $10bn Geographic Information Systems industry. We've invested in these companies alongside some great funds this year, including Accel, Lightspeed, Fly Ventures, Greylock Partners and HF0 Residency. Two major highlights for me this year were the founders offsite we held in Feb with our awesome team and our AGM in Sep (video below) where we welcomed over 100 LPs. We also welcomed our (my) sixth Pact baby so I guess that was also a highlight 👶 As we enter our fourth year of Pact, I'm also excited to spend more time in Germany 🇩🇪 and DACH as we continue to invest in the region and support our companies SureIn and UnitPlus there. And lastly, I'm excited for more bad mum jokes from Reem Wyndham and Tong Gu's wisdom. Thank you to Justin Seghers for keeping the ship running smoothly and our awesome Venture Partners Eda Leka and Sam Ajami. We're also due to announce more thrilling news in 2026 - watch this space!! ❤️
